Outside the Bubble

As it turns out, there are a ton of stars if you get outside the city limits. When I was a yougin, we used to go camping. I remember sitting around the campfire, looking up into space, and marveling at the millions of stars you could see when out in the country.

Tonight, Hadley, Aubrey and I were on a mission to catch fireflys by our house starting at 9:30 and it was just too dark to catch any. So we started looking up at the stars instead with my fancy "Planet/Star Finder" iphone app. Of course there's an app for that. We found "Ursa Major" (i.e. The Big Dipper) and according to the app, there were 30 or more other constellations nearby as well. But you couldn't see the stars.

So we went on a mini road trip out to the country to see what we could see.

After getting past the suburbia bubble zone, where no street lights or chain restaurants exist, you could see tons of stars and a gazillion fireflys. If we had a net we would have caught enough to light our house for a week. Wow was that cool. Reminded me of the Pirates of the Carribean ride at Disneyland.

It was really fun to just hang out with the girls and have some special time away from the Bubble.

We are going to get out even more this summer. Just you wait.
