The Carmel Apple Roadtrip

So the mission of the day was to go to the Weston Applefest to go apple picking. One would think that anything with the word "fest" in it would cover all activities related to the word that preceeds it. Apple dunking. Apple cider. Apple orchards with apples for picking.

So after a very long morning/afternoon of staining the fence, coaching Syd's soccer game, cleaning house and getting the kids ready for the adventure, we ventured to Weston.

Only to find out that apple picking season is officially over. Yup. No more apples to pick. But they had a hell of a fest. So much so that it was about a 30 minute wait for a 6 dollar hot dog. All the kids wanted was a carmel apple. So I sneaked into the gift shop, butted in line, and bought some.

They were really good.

But we didn't pick them.

So we drove down a gravel road to the Weston Red Barn. Their trees were also apple free. So no apple picking there either.

By the time we walked around and looked at the animals and pumpkins, Lisa was not feeling so great. We went ahead and got in the van and headed back home.

But we had to make a quick stop for $2.99 gas, a slim jim, some crackers and some drinks.

It was worth an hour drive just to see gas that cheap. We should have just called the trip Gasfest.
